We’re proud to share that the North Iowa Corridor Joint Comprehensive Plan has been recognized with the Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan by the Iowa Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA Iowa).
This honor celebrates the outstanding planning work that’s shaping Iowa’s communities — and this year, our region stood out for its innovative collaboration and forward-thinking approach.
A First for North Iowa
The City of Mason City, City of Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo County, and the North Iowa Corridor Economic Development Corporation partnered with RDG Planning & Design to create the joint comprehensive plan — the first time all three local governments have come together under one shared regional vision.
The plan integrates three distinct community plans into one unified document, setting common goals around housing, economic development, land use, and transportation while respecting the unique identity of each community.
“The North Iowa Corridor Joint Comprehensive Plan is a landmark achievement in collaborative planning, uniting Mason City, Clear Lake, and Cerro Gordo County under a shared vision for the first time,” noted the awards jury. “The plan stands out for its innovative structure, blending three distinct comprehensive plans into one unified document with shared policies that address regional priorities.”
