CLEAR LAKE, IA — The City of Clear Lake has been selected as one of five communities in Iowa to receive the Iowa Thriving Communities designation from the Iowa Finance Authority and Iowa Economic Development Authority. The designation recognizes communities that have demonstrated strong readiness for housing development through strategic planning, partnerships, and available development opportunities.
Statewide Recognition
Clear Lake was selected through a competitive process that attracted 22 applicants from across Iowa. The designation highlights the community’s commitment to addressing housing needs and supporting future growth.
A local team representing public, private, and nonprofit organizations participated in the application and interview process, including leaders from the City of Clear Lake, North Iowa Corridor Economic Development Corporation, One Vision, Core Real Estate Group, and the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Thriving Communities designation provides a competitive advantage for housing developers seeking state and federal housing incentives. Projects located within designated communities receive additional scoring consideration, helping attract workforce, market-rate, and affordable housing developments.
As communities across North Iowa work to address housing shortages and support workforce growth, expanding housing options remains a key economic development priority.
